Write a Letter to New Mexico Pueblos

Posted by Ryan Hall
09.08.15

One of the speakers at our recent Campaign Nonviolence National Conference was Marian Naranjo of the Santa Clara Pueblo. Her pueblo and others in Northern New Mexico stand on ancient land now poisoned by the Los Alamos National Labs and the nuclear weapons industry. They are some of the poorest places in North America. During her powerful talk, she asked all Campaign Nonviolence friends to write a prayerful letter to the Tribal Leaders of the Northern Pueblos of New Mexico to express solidarity with them as their care of these lands, and our common hope for peace. Marian Naranjo hopes that these letters of prayer and hope will connect us with the ancestral peoples who once lived on these holy lands and help the process of healing that needs to happen.

Campaign Nonviolence invites all friends to write a prayer letter of solidarity, hope and peace and mail it to Marian Naranjo’s organization:

HOPE—Honor Our Pueblo Existence,
627 Flower Road, Espanola,
New Mexico 87532.

Here below is a sample letter.

Thank you for offering your solidarity to the Pueblos of Northern New Mexico,  for your part in Campaign Nonviolence, and for all you do for peace and nonviolence!

–The staff of Pace e Bene/Campaign Nonviolence

Dear Tribal Leaders of Northern New Mexico,

As a member of the growing Campaign Nonviolence national movement, I write to express my gratitude, hope and solidarity with you as you care for the sacred lands of your people. With you, I give thanks for the astonishing beauty of your land and all that sustains life, and join you on the journey of peace and life.

I understand how our culture has flourished at the expense of your people and the destruction of this sacred land, and hope and pray with you that we can return to the Creator’s mandate to live in right relationship with Mother Earth and her creatures.

With you, I pray that your lands and your people will be healed, and that all people will awaken to the call of Mother Earth to protect and restore creation. I pray that your leadership will be blessed with wisdom to guide us on a new journey of healing and peace.

I pray that the land will be healed of all poisons, that nuclear weapons will be abolished, that everyone will renounce violence and injustice, that we will practice nonviolence together, and that economic and social justice and peace will be restored for your peoples and for all.

Thank you for your peacemaking leadership and for all you do for your peoples and for Mother Earth. May the Creator bless us all with a new solidarity that all peoples will live together in harmony, nonviolence and justice, that Mother Earth will be healed, and that we will welcome together a new day of peace.

Very truly yours,
