Organizers with several Justice and Peace groups met on Sept. 20 and again on Sept. 26 at the Cafe on “A” St. in Oxnard, Ca. Represented were Pax Christi,Campaign Nonviolence, and Veterans for Peace, as well as several other smaller organizations. Prof. Pam Brubaker of Calif. Lutheran Univ. gave a thorough talk on the situation in Columbia on the 20th. We then met again on 26 Sept. and combined several presenters. Anthony Whitaker of Veterans for Peace talked extensively about militarism in general, and cautioned the audience about the military’s tendency to recruit in minority neighborhoods. An Environmental Studies student at Oxnard College, Ms. Christian Quirino addressed environmental issues that relate also to social justice, and Ms. Angela Schultz of the Community Roots Garden spoke to us about the importance of healthy eating, largely by keeping the soil itself healthy.

We used a little music in between the presentations and Angela’s organization served salad and dressing along with healthy drinks.

The theme of our gathering on the 26th was “We’re all in this together”.
