Boise,ID Celebrates Peace

Posted by Ryan Hall

By John McMahon // After a week of nonviolent action, organizers in Boise gathered to celebrate their work together and spend time reflecting. Below is John’s reflection.

On Sunday 25 September, Team Members of Idaho Peace Coalition Campaign NonViolence 2016 engaged in a ‘pot luck’ in Memorial Park in Boise, with our Federal Building in the background. That fact is significant, because many of the concerns that manifest as ‘Violence’ in the United States are resolved in some way in our Federal Courts. In some cases even Justice is served!

It was a beautiful sunny ‘Goldilocks’ day – Not too hot or cold but just right. We feasted on home-made dishes of Salmon ‘Hash’ with potatoes; Whole Grain Salad with nuts and cranberries; Veggie Spring Rolls; a Three Cheese plate with Grapes; Maple Glaze Doughnuts; Mini Cinnamon Rolls; Mini Muffins, Coffee, and Orange Juice. We celebrated our Friendship and acknowledged our Love for One Another.

We talked about our prospects for Powering Change by forming an ‘Affinity Group’ with like-minded Peace and Social Action People. We will meet with folks from other groups to exchange information on ‘What’ and ‘How’ we are doing, and what is ‘working’ or not. We are willing to do what we can to energize a dialing back of unhelpful behaviors and attitudes in the current troubling and fractious adversarial geopolitical climate in Idaho, the USA and the rest of the World. OK, It’s a tall order!
If not now, when? If not US who?

Our goal is to move forward in what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. characterized as “…the arc of history bending toward Justice.” We will educate ourselves in order to shed light on the troubling issues and concerns of the day. We and other Idahoans can and will influence dialogue in our State Legislature and the United States Congress.
