We are honored to have City of Worcester Mayor Joe Petty welcoming all the panelists. Panelists include nuclear disarmament specialist Paul Walker, special guest US Congressman Jim McGovern, Holy Cross sociology professor Selina Gallo-Cruz, and CNVS education coordinator Claire Schaeffer-Duffy. Former city mayor Joe O’Brien will facilitate.
Given the current world situation, there is a greater need than ever for creative diplomacy and viable alternatives for peace. Wars abound abroad, and the refugee crisis continues. Here in the US, the intense polarization of our domestic politics, the rise of domestic terrorism, and the near paralysis of our political system indicate that now, more than ever, we need to cultivate empathy and build bridges between left and right within our own country. Similar challenges permeate the local level as Worcester works to reduce youth violence and give our young people the best possible opportunity to grow and thrive.
How to rise to the demands of these troubled times is the question. Take inspiration and courage from this evening discussion on building peace.
Free and Open to the public. Donations welcome.
Refreshments will be served.
