There will be two main events in Memphis!
1) A Peace and Interfaith Peace Vigil on Sept. 18 in the courtyard of the National Civil Rights Museum from 3-5pm. The theme is “Envisioning a Nonviolent Memphis.”
The program will include Floridia Jackson from the School of Servant Leadership, as our keynote speaker as well as speakers from the faith and peace communities to say just a few words about the theme. There will be music and readings. We will end the program with the Campaign Nonviolence Pledge.
Located at: 450 Mulberry St.Memphis, TN 38103
2) On Sept. 23 there will be a Public witness around the city proclaiming a call for a NONVIOLENT MEMPHIS. The peace and interfaith community will space themselves strategically around the city on designated street corners. Each group will hold a NONVIOLENT MEMPHIS banner and an identifying poster/banner representing their own organization or faith tradition. This action will take place between 5 p.m and 6 p.m. Afterwards we plan to gather all the groups together at First Congregational Church at 6:30pm with food and reflection on this action. Located at: 1000 S Cooper St Memphis, TN 38104
Also on Sept. 23… A peace and healing candlelight vigil at 8pm at the First Congregational Church. See flyer, right.
