From September 12-14 Some of the most prominent engaged contemplatives in the West will be gathering in upstate New York and will facilitate discussion and activities around hunger, hatred, homelessness, war, racism, and human trafficking….

With Leading Engaged Contemplatives:

Leading Contemplatives

Contemplative practice ultimately takes us off the pillow, out of our temples and into the world—people become our “forest.” Join us for a weekend retreat/intensive with six leading contemplative activists offering hope against hunger, hatred, homelessness, war, racism and human trafficking: Bhikkhu BodhiRoshi Bernie GlassmanFather John DearVenerable PannavatiBhikkhu Pannadipa, and Venerable Ani Drubgyudma. Each of these leaders have stood alone to be a voice for change. But, making that decision was the catalyst for many others to follow their own hearts. They show us how to return, with skillful means, to an engaged spirituality as the essence of inspired wisdom. Meditation/reflection, dialogue, social engagement training, small group dynamics and networking will be the tools to encourage, deepen and define our practice. A compassionate heart is not obstructed by religion, creed or any barrier; it beats for the welfare of all.

Come with questions and your personal witness of what the world asks for. If you are engaged in compassionate service, we would like to hear about it. Eight micro-grants will be awarded to participants developing projects in the following social areas: youth homelessness, education, social enterprise, human trafficking, peace and reconciliation, ecological sustainability, restorative justice and gender equality (including in spiritual leadership).

Saturday daylong option available. For more information please contact Sandy Westin at 828-692-6329 or assistantesh1@yahoo.com
