INTRODUCING THE THREAD WITH OZY
In The Thread With OZY, a podcast in which Serial meets “six degrees of separation,” OZY turns back the clock one story at a time to reveal how the various strands of history get woven together to create a historic figure, unthinkable tragedy or big idea. In our first season, we pulled the thread on the murder of John Lennon and explored how it actually connects back to communist leader Vladimir Lenin. In our second season, we looked at the history of the #MeToo movement, tracing the story back to the early days of the Hollywood studio system.
SEASON 3: A HISTORY OF NONVIOLENCE
Can a single powerful idea remake the world? This year marks the 50th anniversary of the death of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. And so in season three of The Thread we explore the origins of a powerful idea, one very near and dear to the heart of King — the principle of nonviolent resistance. This season, we’ll see how that principle journeyed through the minds of some remarkable individuals over more than a century of history — and across the globe, from Boston to Russia to South Africa to India to a 27-year-old preacher in Alabama.
