9/18/14

On September 18th, members of the Sisters of St. Agnes gathered in their Chapel at Nazareth Court and Center in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin for an hour of prayer in honor of our Lady, Queen of Peace. They begged her intercession for an end to war, poverty and the harm done to Mother Earth. They also prayed for God’s blessing of fruitfulness for the 200 nonviolent actions that are taking place during the week beginning on the International Day of Peace. Sisters were very grateful to be able to participate in this prayer and said they would be using it many times.

The CSA/Social Justice Committee of Marian University in Fond du Lac, WI held a dinner and dialogue with Marie Luisa Rosal

On September 22nd, Maria Luisa Rosal, Field Organizer for the School of the Americas Watch, was the guest speaker during a “dinner and dialogue” held in Founders Hall at the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Agnes. Maria Luisa and members of her family received political asylum in the USA after her father was disappeared by members of the Guatemalan government. Not only did Maria Luisa share her personal testimony of human rights abuses committed in Latin American countries by graduates of the School of the Americas (now known as the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation). The School, located on the army base in Columbus, GA, is paid for with US taxpayer dollars. For 25 years, nonviolent action has taken place at the gates of Fort Benning in remembrance of the hundreds of thousands massacred in past civil wars and the low intensity warfare conducted yet today under the guise of the USA War on Drugs and anti-terrorism. She connected the dots between war, poverty, and the changing climate as well. On Tuesday, September 23rd, Maria Luisa spoke at Marian University to an audience of community members and students on the same topic. She introduced her presentation with a YouTube documentary video about the School of the Americas: Somos Una America https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PR9qltmbQM .
