World Beyond War Conference 2018

Posted by Erin Bechtol
06.14.18

World Beyond War asks us: We’re against war, but what do we replace it with? Let’s design and build an alternative system of global governance–one in which peace is pursued by peaceful means. Learn how at #NoWar2018 in Toronto!

Join World BEYOND War for the #NoWar2018 annual global conference this September 21-22, during the CNV Week of Actions. Explore how the rule of law has been used both to restrain war and to legitimize it—and how to re-design systems to abolish the institution of war and uphold human and ecological justice.

Plenaries and workshops will cover topics such as Canadian wars, weapons, and indigenous rights; tax resistance; creative activism; divestment from war profiteers; people’s tribunals; departments and other national infrastructures of peace; citizen action using the rule of law against war; and more.

Featured speakers include:

  • Christine Ahn, Founder of Women Cross DMZ
  • Ravyn Wngz, Steering Committee Member of Black Lives Matter Toronto
  • Medea Benjamin, Co-Founder of CODEPINK and Global Exchange
  • Doug Hewitt-White, President of Conscience Canada
  • Kevin Zeese, Co-Director of PopularResistance.org
  • Daniel Turp, President of the Quebec Association of Constitutional Law (AQDC) and President of the Quebec Society of International Law (SQDI)

The conference kicks off on Friday, September 21, the International Day of Peace, and concludes with a Blue Scarf March for Peace on Sunday, September 23.
