Pope Jail Visit Echo Event
Peace Walk and Prayer Vigil to the Jail (Detention Center, SA Jail, and County Jail) Justice and Dignity
Wednesday, September 30th – 5:00 PM
St. Joseph Catholic Church
727 Minter Street
Santa Ana, CA 92701
We will walk from St. Josephs Catholic Church to The OC County Jail and Detention Center on Civic Center Dr. and hold a prayer vigil and foot washing ceremony for those incarcerated, undocumented immigrants, those killed by community violence/law enforcement and low wage worker. Join to show solidarity and pray for our community healing.
Sponsored by St. Joseph Catholic Church, OCCCO, Pax Christi Orange County, Pace-e-Bene/Campaign Nonviolence, Council on Muslim Women, and the Greater Light Missionary Baptist Church.
Purpose: For too long our collective sins of greed and racism have torn us apart from each other and from God. These sins hurt people and destroy our communities. People of faith are eager to hear a unifying restorative message around economic inclusion and racial healing. Our community is excited about the Pope’s visit to the US and look to him as a man of God to be an example of peace and justice. This is a watershed moment and an opportunity to remember that God created us ALL with great love and interconnectedness— especially as our country struggles with a moral crisis given the racial and economic turmoil our communities are facing.
Pope Francis visit to the jail in Philadelphia is an opportunity to show our solidarity with the marginalized and stand in righteous resistance against a system benefits and profits off their suffering. Together we stand in love and compassion for the prisoner, the undocumented immigrant, the refugee, the low wage worker and the traumatized from police and community violence. We weep for the loss of our humanity and repent for the rupturing of our relationships and seek reconciliation and restoration with those who have been dehumanized.
Through the Peace walk and Prayer Vigil for Justice and Dignity in Santa Ana, CA we will collaborate with partners and congregations to work together and inspire people in Orange County to begin to envision a future that is just, peaceful and full of dignity for all people.
